Guerrilla Tactics: A Backward Fashion in the 21st Century (Mine Alone)

As I passed through the hallowed halls of Greenhills and SM Megamall, I felt a deep and inner-pity, not for myself, but for others. It is a matter of being fashionable- one of which I never imagined nor fantasized to journalize about.

Ofcourse, I'm a teenager, and what you'd expect from me, is the common suit, that is used by my fellow teenagers. But, sad to say, I felt (without boasting) an inner difference amongst these idle and poisoned colonial minded humans. This is why, without words, I humiliate myself as 'baduy' compared to the cycle of interrelationships that exists with me and my fellas'. I can't be too forlorn, for I am not a geek. It's just I attempt myself not to be a 'conyo', a gangster, a 'rakista', or a 'jejemon' when it comes to my 'japorms', or fashion outfit. I'm considering my own style that is far rough from that of my age- a fashion that is far different from those that I mentioned above. It's a fashion that mainly adapts my affection for guerilla standards that activists, hippies, John Lennon-wannabees, rebels, and Che Guevara fanatics would claim as their uniforms. Weird me, isn't it?

Although, in sharing, I felt my being 'sexy', when I wore my favorite expression shirt that expresses, TANGINA THIS! I concluded my being sexy because of the high appeal and cute reactions that I received chicks.

I'm just trying to practice my self-indoctrinated dogma of the quote, "while others pursue the right, I pursued the left." Jizz, its not just because I'm an activist, its just that I believe in my artistic medium- that is madness.

But this kind of fashion owns a deep meaning in my spirit. The simple way I wear my bonnet, or my cap (that has a red star) and wear my black shirt and (even) broken rubber shoes has a meaning- far from the way the many ignorant teens conceptualize of. Its my devotion to radical poverty.

To add up and full-pack my playlist, here are my unsolicited fashion tips for those who want to adapt this weird kind of being, that with all lowliness to claim: mine alone, the Guerilla Fashion:

1.) STUDY CHE GUEVARA. The  guy behind the hip and 'astig' image that Cubans (and even some Filipinos, especially the radicals, like me) merely venerate because of his realistic epic that serves as an inspiration to many armed leftists all-over the world, never alone fails to execute a unique fashion genre, but as well as a history of being a true warrior. But a true learning of his philosophy will validate you to be like him.

2.) ADORE LEGENDARY MUSICIANS. Listen and inhale the vibes of songs that were voiced by John Lennon, Bob Marley, Kurt Cobain, etc. For Filipino's sake listen and take in heart the hearty songs of the famous OPM folk band ASIN, Joey Ayala, APO Hiking Society, Heber Bautista, Francis Magalona, and (my favorite) Eraserheads. Ofcourse, make Lennon's 'Imagine' and ASIN's 'Tuldok' your personal national hymn.

3.) DEVOTE YOURSELF TO SAINT FRANCIS OF ASSISI, whose story of evangelical and radical poverty that astonished the materialstic church of that time. This may even help you earn the faith that Jesus Christ, who (for me and for many believers) is God became lowly and poor, inspite the fact that He owns all the riches of the whole world, really- that leads to the conclusion that He is one with the socialists.

4.) READ PABLO NERUDA. His poetic beats makes you a true guerilla.

5.) DO NOT LISTEN TO KRIS AQUINO. Her white 'peps' ain't tempting, really.

6.) OBSERVE LOURD DE VEYRA. Yeah, look at how weird he is, yet he rose to the popularity in the media world.

7.) JOIN ACTIVISTS. You may really never feel the soul of this fashion statement, without knowing it's true and authentic foundation, that is far from being a fashion. Be a common man. Be one with the fights against a colonial government and to earn the one true national socialist democracy. (Otherwise, you're a hypocrite.)

8.) PROFESS THAT YOU ARE A 'PETTY-BOURGEOIS'. For you really are, from the heart. You are not supposed to wear this if you're not a 'burgis'. To have a deeper understanding, please do search for the 1981 Lino Brocka film, "Burgis"- starring Gabby Concepcion and Amy Austria.

9.) DRINK SAN MIGUEL BEER AND SMOKE MARLBORO BLACK CIGARETTES. It's the true initiation for this fashion. You may only acquire a good voice in singing if you do so, says Rico J. Puno.

10.) YEAH, SHUT THE F*CK UP, KID! Study your lessons in class, before joining the guerilla revolution.

Speaks off, niggas'.

American Junk

Our country is said to be independent from the mother fucking sons of bitches who held the pearl of the orient seas for about 45 years as their imperial captives. Yes, I believe, but in a physical state alone.

The Philippines, with all honesty, is a country still under these arrogant white chongos, be it in terms of education, language, and mentality.

Our colonial mentality that hails from the Americans still stands as the biggest factor of corruption in the Philippines. This article would like to attempt to expose proofs to my statement.

First, these Americans claim that our country is a country of bitches, of sluts, and of prostitutes. According to the “black pussy” (as coined by Ms. Marlene Aguilar) Ambassador Harry Thomas, many foreign tourists are coming to the Philippines just for sex tourism. At first sight, I doubt if he does it too. How dare he judge those innocent young women!? By the way, he’s country is simply and materially the biggest sex center, right? At least kahit paano, may marami pa namang 15 years old na virgin dito sa atin.

In APO Hiking Society’s song, “American Junk”, the legendary OPM trio pronounced that they give us their tiknoloji (technology) just to get our money and capture our natural resources. The “American dream” that is adapted by many Filipinos, in deed, steals our natural resources: the Filipino workers. It’s not really bad to dream to work to other countries, but there are many Filipinos abroad already. Pinayaman ang ibang bayan…pamilya’y iniwanan.

Lastly, they corrupt our Filipino identity. Our identity us Filipino is truly critical as of the moment, due to the different illusive influences they brought to us: media, technology, etc. They steal our being Filipinos. They are stealing our nation’s soul.

APO Hiking Society singing their hit classic, "American Junk"
So I there fore, would like to part take in an activist activity against the “Aquino-American” administration in the Philippines. Mr. Aquino, if you are really driving a drive against mass corruption in the Philippines, please do not collaborate nor avoid joining forces with this goddamn sons of bitches, who actually and invincibly corrupt our Filipino spirit.

Happy Birthday John Lennon

Bakit? Because for me, John Lennon's music is simply the music that erases the preconceived notions that we have in music. His music is highly influential.

Mabuhay ka Mr. John Winston Ono Lennon, a.k.a. JOHN LENNON!

Peace!

Martial Law 39 years ago

Last Wednesday (September 21, 2011) the Filipino nation once again remembered the greatest historical tragedy in our country. A tragedy not caused by fat men who wear long vestments (that were merely used as costumes to convert the pagan archipelago) with chastity belts or also known as cinctures (also available as the ‘chase the “tt” belts) that were tied around their hypocritical stomachs. Nor was it caused by white skinned sons of bitches, who boldly dominated our small republic and named as their state. It was caused by our own fellow Filipino, the late Ferdinand Edralin Marcos, the President-Dictator of the Republic of the Philippines (1965-1986).

For history’s sake, it was September 23, 1972 when a broadcasted speech of the dictator appeared on national television in which he officially decreed the effectiveness of Presidential Decree No. 1081 that rules that the entire Philippines is placed under martial law. Marcos’ primary basis for his proclamation of martial law was that the suspension of writ of habeas corpus was not enough to stop the pursuing violence caused by militants who are against his rule. One of which was the Plaza Miranda Bombing during a Liberal Party campaign rally on August 21, 1972.

This stage in history is considered as the darkest page in our own democratic Philippines. Many were put to jail, including the venerable Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, Jr. who was one of the dictator’s biggest political opponent. Many student-activists from the University of the Philippines (UP) and from the Philippine College of Commerce (now Polytechnic University of the Philippines or PUP) were arrested due to their strong allegiance with the communist forces.

According to my facebook friend who commented on my wall post, being an activist during those days was thoroughly hard. When FM declared martial law, they were in Bulacan, hiding from the military forces who were haunting them. There were members of the PCC student council who were lost, and even at present are. One of them was his (my fb friend’s) best friend, Romy Banaga, student activist and president of the PCC student council. Another recollection came from my mom’s fellow worker, whose sibling is still lost from the hands of the military up to this date.

My intuition tells me that they were either killed by FM’s forces or is still now breathing and fighting in the mountains as members of the New People’s Army (NPA).

It was 39 years ago, almost four decades.

We still exist in its evil spell.

We still live beside its shadow.

But, do we even remember it?

Do we at least care for it?

The democracy-the fresh air-the sunlight we enjoy today were the fruits of those student activists and heroes who fought to defend our raped and abused freedom.

A last note: The dictator now exists in either heaven (sana) or hell (huwag naman po). He’s dead. But as I see our nationhood, we ourselves are not fully aware (especially us the young ones) of our own defects as an individual and as a country.

We (the Filipino people) are now the Marcosistic (or even Imeldific) dictators of our own selves.

MABUHAY ANG PILIPINAS! MABUHAY ANG KALAYAAN!
